SYMPTOMS
When you publish a project plan to the Microsoft Project Server Web site, you may receive the following error message with the Microsoft Project Server spooler:
1 new error(s) pending in the Microsoft Project Server Spooler.
Do you want to open the spooler window to view the error(s)
When you click Yes, or you double-click Spooler on the taskbar, you receive one of the following error messages in the Microsoft Project spooler dialog box:
Project Server Spooler Error (0x8C040028)
Project Server Spooler Error (0x80004005)
Additionally, you may receive the following error message when you quit Microsoft Project Professional:
An exception occurred in the Microsoft Project Server. Microsoft Project Server encountered a problem with this error code: 9100. Please contact your server administrator.

CAUSE
This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true: • You log on to the network with the Novell Client and you do not specify Microsoft Windows NT credentials.
• You have restrictive permissions for the following Microsoft Project Server folder:
Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Project Server\Bin\ViewDrop

Method 1: Log on to a Windows Domain with the Novell Client
Note Use this method if the first condition that is listed in the "Cause" section is true.

When you log on to the network by using the Novell Client, you must specify the Microsoft Windows NT credentials to log on to the Windows NT domain. To do this, open the properties for the Novell Client, click Advanced, and then configure your credentials for the Windows NT domain.

Method 2: Verify the ViewDrop Folder Permissions
Note Use this method if the second condition that is listed in the "Cause" section is true.

To verify the folder security permissions, follow these steps: 1. Log on to the server by using your domain user name and password.

Note You must have a local Administrator or Domain Administrator level user name and password to the reconfigure the folder security permissions.
2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then point to Accessories.
3. Click Windows Explorer, expand My Computer, and then click the drive letter that contains the ViewDrop folder.

Note The typical installation point is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Project Server\Bin\ViewDrop
4. Right-click the ViewDrop folder, and then click Properties.
5. Click the Security tab, and then view the list of names and groups that have permissions on the folder. Verify or add the following groups or user names with the appropriate permissions: • Administrators Full Control
• Authenticated Users Full Control
• Everyone with the following permissions: Modify, Ready & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, and Write
• Internet Guest Account Full Control
• System Full Control

6. Click Apply, and then click OK.

The ViewDrop folder is used to queue requests to publish project plans and other information to the database. There is a Windows NT service that reads from this queue and then processes the requests one at a time. This procedure optimizes the use of system resources throughout these sometimes long-running activities. The folder must have the security settings that permit the Microsoft Project Server Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI) DLL files, to write to the folder and the security settings that permit the Windows NT service to read from the folder.
